International shows and exhibitions are primarily concerned with the highest level of exhibiting. Each year only a handful are held in different countries. The governing body for these is the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie, headquartered in Luxembourg. Winning an award in one of these exhibitions means you have "made it" in the world of stamp exhibiting.
